I wrote recently on the terribly misguided attempts by the ASPCA and the Mayor’s Alliance to pass a bill that would do nothing to assist NYC’s animals. Intro 655 is a futile political move – not a true solution to the horrific conditions at NYC’s ACC. This bill would alleviate the city of their legal responsibility to build shelters in their two biggest boroughs, the Bronx and Queens. These shelters are desperately needed. Additionally, supporters claim the bill would lead to an increase in ACC funding, but this caveat is actually not written into the bill – it’s simply a promise. Can we really believe them?!
Now, the news gets worse. According to the Shelter Reform Action Committee, the New York City Council is planning to fast track the bill.
